To find your sunglasses size, look for three numbers printed inside the arm of a pair you already own, such as 53-19-145. These are the lens width, bridge width and arm length in millimetres, and you can compare them with the sizes listed for any new frame.

What the numbers on sunglasses mean
Most frames have a set of three numbers on the inside of one arm, sometimes with a small square symbol between the first two. In order, they are:
- Lens width: the width of one lens at its widest point.
- Bridge width: the gap between the two lenses, where the frame sits on your nose.
- Arm length: also called temple length. This is the full length of the arm, including the part that curves behind your ear.
So 53-19-145 means 53 mm lenses, a 19 mm bridge and 145 mm arms. Those happen to be the measurements of our Aurien.
How to work out frame width
Frame width is the total width across the front of the sunglasses. It has a big effect on how a pair looks on you, but it isn't always printed. You can estimate it: add two lens widths and the bridge width, then allow a few millimetres for the frame edges.
For example, 53 + 53 + 19 = 125 mm, so a 53-19-145 frame will be a little wider than 125 mm across the front. Frames with a thick acetate front may add a little more.
How to measure for sunglasses
Measure a pair you already like
This is the easiest way. Find a pair that fits you well, check the numbers inside the arm, and use them as your guide. If the numbers have worn off, lay the sunglasses on a table and use a ruler to measure one lens at its widest point, the gap between the lenses, and the length of one arm.
Measure your face
Stand in front of a mirror and hold a ruler level across your face at eye height. Measure from temple to temple. The frame width you're looking for is roughly the same as the widest part of your face.
Use lens width as a rough guide
- Under about 50 mm: tends to suit smaller or narrower faces
- 50 to 54 mm: tends to suit medium faces
- 55 mm and above: tends to suit wider faces
Bridge and arm length fine-tune comfort. If the bridge is too wide, the frame can slide down your nose. If it's too narrow, it can pinch or sit too high. The arms should reach comfortably over your ears without pressing.

- The frame is about as wide as your face and doesn't stick out past your temples.
- Your eyes sit roughly in the centre of the lenses.
- The frame doesn't touch your cheeks, even when you smile.
- The bridge sits comfortably and the frame doesn't slide when you look down.
- The arms don't pinch behind your ears or leave marks.

FAQs
Where is the size printed on my sunglasses?
Usually on the inside of one arm. If it has worn off, measure the lens, bridge and arm with a ruler as described above.
What if my sunglasses feel a little loose?
Check the hinge screws first, and tighten any loose ones gently with a small eyeglass screwdriver. Acetate frames can also be adjusted with gentle heat by an optician.
Do men and women need different sizes?
Not necessarily. Size depends on your face, not your gender. Every Yume frame is unisex, so choose the measurements that suit you.
